Killarney National park
Surrounding the West and South of the stunning town of Killarney in Co. Kerry, Killarney National park is 26,000 square meters of some of the most beautiful landscapes in Ireland. And trust me, it has a lot of competition!

Killarney National Park has an abundance of lakes, mountains, rivers and waterfalls so there will always be a new perspective on each visit to this spectacular kingdom. That's why over 1 million people visit this park every year.
The Park is home to Muckross house and gardens, a very popular tourist destination because of its grounds and views over Muckross lake which on a clear sunny day will take your breath away. Weekend Ireland can 100% guarantee it!

There is a massive selection of Walking trails all around the park to choose from. You can take easy paths or difficult climbs depending on what your tastes and fitness levels are.
Knockreer to Ross Island is a short 5km walk with an elevation that only reaches 45 metres, but if you want a more challenging route you can do the 7km Old Kenmare Road which inclines a little higher.
On your walks, you will probably cross paths with loads of wildlife from deer to bats, birds and other small creatures as Killarney National Park is home to a massive variety of animals, fish and fauna.

If you want to take a more relaxed approach to the National Park, Killarney House and Gardens are a beautiful converted stable block that once belonged to a French Chateau on the premises. Unfortunately, the Chateau was destroyed in a fire in 1913.
Today the house and gardens have been meticulously restored to their original splendour and you can tour the house and garden. The Visitors centre for the Killarney National Park is also located at Killarney House.
With so much to explore around the National Park, you may want to give yourself a full weekend in Killarney to take it all in. The Muckross Hotel and Day Spa is a perfect place to relax after a day walking or hiking with a few relaxing treatments.
