When you try to find something different to do with your children during the weekend, generally you come across the usual lists like, go to the cinema, Dublin Zoo, or go to a park. They are bland, dull and repetitive. We're not doing that!

We are thinking outside the box to supply you with idea's that will provide you and your little bundles of joy some fantastic quality time together. I have an eight-year-old daughter, and I'm always looking for new and exciting adventures for us to learn and play together.

See our list below for some of my preferred thing's to do with my child. As always, if you have some fun activities that you like to do, please leave a comment below.

Parent and Child arts & crafts at Pine Forest Art Centre

The Pine Forest Arts & Crafts Centre in the Dublin mountains produces fun and creative art classes for parents and children on the final Sunday of every month.

You can go to the art centre on a Sunday morning and create glorious art together with your children. The Pine Forest Art Centre is located in a warm, friendly and encouraging (and not to mention beautiful) setting. Sitting in the beautiful hills of Ballybrack, the views along with the drive, that will only add to the experience.

You kids will cherish spending this time here with you. You might remember when you were a child, creating something together with your parents, whether it was painting, cooking, or anything else.

These are the memories your children will cherish, and all children deserve to be imaginative and celebrated for their work. I think if you start creating art here, you might make it a routine, monthly activity that both you and your children will love.

You can visit their website here.

Have a historically interactive adventure with Vikings in Dublinia

Dublinia beside Christchurch in the heart of Dublin is such a fun day out for kids to learn about the history of Ireland and interact with exhibitions on Vikings and old Dublin. I was so into Vikings when I was a kid; it all started when I first visited Dublinia as a six-year-old.

Travel back in time to medieval Dublin and discover what it was like to sail on a Viking longship. Climb the building's original medieval tower that looks out over Dublin city, or learns to unearth in an archaeological dig.

A family ticket for two adults and two children costs only €26. So venture to the city and have a great time watching the kids investigate and discover some Irish history.

You might even pick up some new knowledge yourself.

Ride waves in Aquazone at the National Aquatic Centre

Who doesn't love swimming, waterslides, wave machines and other water-based attractions? No-one that who, and especially kids.

Most of the time Irish people are required to go on holidays to experience the delights of waterparks, but not in Aqua-zone at the national aquatic centre in Blanchardstown just outside Dublin city.

The kids will be in heaven with an excellent choice of water slides, a lazy river, a wave machine and a bubble pool. For the smaller children, let's not forget a pirate ship to play on, guaranteed to help them spend loads of energy swimming, sliding and having a glorious time.

For a family of two adults and two children in €50 at peak times, It's a little cheaper off-peak.

Get flying outdoors with Zipit in Tibradden woods

First of all, your children must be seven years old and over to enjoy the delights of Zip-lining. If your children are under seven years old and you're afraid of heights (like me) luckily you get a pass.

My daughter is eight years old, so I get to climb high platforms fastened to trees. I get to sense my legs turn to jelly as I sweat uncontrollably in anxiety, then finish squealing like a 10-year-old girl.

In all seriousness, Zipit is fantastic fun. After a few minutes, you will adjust to the heights while trying to keep up with your children zip-lining between the tree's in the forests of Tibradden woods in the Dublin Mountains.

There are over 655 meters of Zip-lines with activities on the platforms in between. If you are feeling fearless, you can choose to do a 20-meter base jump.

Prices vary from €15 to €32 for children; the rate for adults is €32.

I assure you, it is very much worth the cost, with the adrenaline and fun you will have you might book your next visit before you leave.

Explore the interactive Science Gallery at Trinity College

I don't care what anyone says, science is cool!

Without science, we wouldn't have so much luxury. We should embrace and nurture or desire to learn and discover science more, plus you might have the next Albert Einstein on your hand's.

The Science Gallery in Trinity College Dublin is a fantastic place to learn and experiment with science in an entertaining way. You and your family will be in awe of what you can do and how the experiments work.

The gallery runs three different exhibitions on varying scientific topics, and all are interactive and fun. Best of all it's free, so you can have a great time, take the money you spent and get some tasty ice-cream as an added treat for learning so much.
