Something For The Whole Family At Lullymore Heritage & Discovery Park

A fun family day out awaits you!

Sitting in Co. Kildare, between the towns of Rathangan and Allenwood, is the Wonderful Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park. There is so much to do here, and its a great day out for the whole family.

Lullymore itself is a small mineral island surrounded by Ireland's largest peat land, the Bog of Allen. Thousands of years ago, early settlers had vast, fertile farmland in Lullymore and were protected from attack by the surrounding wetlands. In the 5th Century, Saint Patrick converted a Druid named Erc and ordained him his first Bishop. Bishop Erc was then sent to Lullymore to set up a monastery which would last over a thousand years.

Today, Lullymore is a Heritage park that offers us more than just the history of the area. You will learn a lot about Irish history overall, from bronze age settlers to the potato famine which began in 1845.

Now that may not sound like the most exciting day out, especially for the children, but Lullymore has the facilites to keep the kids happy.

As part of the entry price, you have full access to all that is on offer, from a train ride around the park to the pet farm that has lamas, pigs and goats. They have an 18 hole crazy golf course and themed gardens for the kids to explore where they can find the fairy tree where the fairies live. If they have any energy left, you can let them run wild in the playground.

During holidays they have themed events for Christmas, turning the park into a Winter Wonderland, where the children can visit Santa and explore his home. For Easter, they have an egg hunt through an Easter-themed wonderland.

They also have a cafe inside which is also home to an indoor play area for the kids, so if you’re in need of a coffee, you can relax while they have a fantastic time.

There is a charge into the park, but there is no time limit on how long you stay there. You can easily spend your day here and enjoy everything there is to offer.
