Marlay Park has all of the above!

Marlay Park is a historic and beautiful 210-acre park sitting in the quaint suburb of Rathfarnham in South Dublin.

Dublin City council opened the park in 1975. It has recreational spaces like a 9 hole golf course, tennis courts, soccer, and GAA pitches. There are also two fantastic playgrounds for the kids along with a model railway.

Every Saturday morning they also run the free 5 km run called Parkrun, which you can register for here. You can find yourself running among 200 other leisure runners.

On a sunny weekend in Dublin, it will be difficult to find a more appealing way to spend your afternoon than walking the paths of Marlay Park. Every weekend, there is a small food and craft market at the main house close to the main entrance.

You will find street foods from around the world and some excellent coffee and crepe stalls too. So, if your goal is to relax for the day, trust that you won't go hungry. In addition, in the main courtyard, they have a weekend farmers market where you can purchase some local fresh produce.

Since the year 2000, Marlay Park has become a music venue with a capacity of 40,000 people. Since 2013 it has become the home to the Longitude Festival. Some world-famous acts have performed on the grounds including Radiohead, Oasis, Metallica, and Coldplay.

Marlay Park is the official starting point of the 132 km Wicklow Way long-distance walking trail that begins at the car park adjacent to Marlay House. The trail wanders through the park before tunneling under the M50 motorway to begin its first ascent southwards towards the Dublin Hills and the Wicklow Mountains to Clonegal, Co. Carlow.

A 1.82 hectare (4.5 acres) walled garden was built near the house around 1794. The ornamental garden boasts an extensive display of period plants, ranging from herbaceous borders to shrub beds. Located just over the wall, the kitchen garden houses a fine collection of regency fruit trees, vegetables, and associated bothies. Overall, a great FREE day out for everyone!
