A Working Farm, a Barn Restaurant and a Petting Zoo all In One Place!

Where? Newbarn, Co. Meath.

Co. Meath is known as the Royal County and is located north of Dublin so not a long trek from the capital city. There is so much to do in this beautiful and historic county, and one of our favourite things for the family is Newbarn Farm.

This is a working farm that focuses mainly on the production of vegetables. The owners decided that instead of making produce for large supermarket chains, where any small inconsistencies in their vegetables were rejected, and massive amounts of unnecessary packaging were required they would create their own store. They have eliminated the middle man to sell their products themselves where you can purchase fresh vegetables directly from the farm.

Along with their shop, they decided to open a restaurant, creating a menu around the food they produce, so you know the quality will be exceptional and extremely fresh. This restaurant is lovingly called “The Donkey Shed” because its sitting inside a beautifully converted barn.

They serve a fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner so you can experience the freshness all day long. For the family, you have the open farm where you can feed carrots to their two donkeys, Neddy and Danny, who used to live in the restaurant but had to be re-homed.

They have chickens, pigs, sheep, along with free-roaming geese and ducks that like to cause traffic jams in the car park. The kids will have a great time interacting with the animals and seeing how a working farm operates. So, if your looking for a great family day out, you can't go wrong with Newbarn Farm.
