Get stuck into some real Chinese food at Lee's Charming Noodles

The starving people of Ireland are massive fans of Chinese food! There are so many Chinese takeaways in every town across Ireland that delivery drivers are run off their feet at the weekends getting curries and the noodles out to the masses.

One thing Chinese people will tell you about this food is that, well they would refuse to eat it. It's simply not real Chinese food. Its a watered-down westernised version of authentic Chinese cuisine.

As Irish people, we should delve into what makes this delightful Asian food so great, in the same way, that we have embraced Japanese or Thai food and kept it as close to traditional as possible.

With hundreds of these treasures scattered around the city, Lee's Charming Noodles is one that I have come to adore.

This authentic Chinese restaurant will never be known for its style. That would not be high on the list of needs to get bums on seats.

All they require is good, traditional Chinese cooking, and you know it's good because you might be the only western person there when you go.

After you order, you will be waiting for what may be a typical menu for the Chinese guests while it will be a new experience for you.

Their food is delicious. Also, the portions are substantial and fresh noodles are imperfect and made daily. Every main dish is around €9 to €11 and might satisfy you for two meals that day. Although the portions are substantial, the restaurant itself is petite, a few tables around with some more on a balcony above.

We ordered a few dishes like shredded pork in Szechuan, prawn and egg dumplings, Chicken noodle soup and Chicken with cashews.

I could not say a bad word about any of the meal, although they had similarities to what we may be used to, it was still quite different from a typical Irish/Chinese take away meal.

With all the Chinese people coming and going for food, you know you're in for an authentic experience.

At one point, there were a few small groups of Chinese people waiting to get a table. As a result, a stressed waitress trying to deal with them as it was so busy.

I'm not going to describe the food in too much detail, do yourself a favour and take a visit to see for yourself.

Location: Parnell Street, Dublin 1. You can find Lee's restaurant here

Price Scale: Between €8 to €11 for a main dish
