The Grand Canal stretches from Grand Canal Square in Dublin across the country to the Shannon River in Co. Offaly. It's full of stunning scenery as you cross the country. The Grand Canal also has a walking and bike path along a large section of the canal, especially close to Dublin and the larger towns it passes.

Experiencing one of the barges on the canal is a wonderful thing, looking back at how goods and people were shipped into the capital when cars and trains were a luxury and unavailable to impoverished people.

Sallins, in Co. Kildare is where life on the Grand Canal began. So, it's fitting that its home to a small company who's purpose is showing people how life was back in the day with a stunningly restored traditional canal barge.

For 2.5 hours, you can cruise along the canal, learning about its history and taking in the beautiful Irish countryside. The friendly Captain of the boat will bring you on a tour like no other in Ireland.

The Barge itself has a wood-burning stove inside, along with a bar and seating inside and outside. They can accommodate up to 12 passengers on the Barge so it will be a comfortable cruise for all involved.

Sallins is a 30-minute drive from Dublin City and is easily accessible by train. Therefore, if you're visiting Ireland and staying in the city, this will be a nice convenient break away from the city centre.

The charming town of Sallins has a ton of lovely bars and restaurants full of friendly people, which are free to enjoy after your cruise.
