Must visit bars in Dublin

Dublin has a massive variety of bars for every type of customer from small, quiet old man's pub to the massive loud music super pubs. But today we're not focused on them. We want to show you 5 Dublin Pubs That Will Make Your Jaw Drop when you walk through the door.

The Church Café Bar & Restaurant

The Church Bar is a very unique venue in Dublin for a night out. Situated on Dublin's Northside close to the Jervis Shopping Centre and one of Dublin's largest shopping areas, Henry Street. Its so central that you can avoid Dublin’s tourist traps like Temple Bar but not have to stray too far from your hotel.

When you first walk in the door after being greeted by the friendly doormen, your chin will instantly raise to look up at the beautiful Renatus Harris built organ and the stained glass windows. The wooden interior with the balcony overlooking the bar on the ground floor is a great place to sit and eat. They have a massive outdoor area for smokers or people looking to make the most of the Irish sun when it does come out on occasion.

The food here is pub grub but in a good way and not too high on the price scale compared to more touristy areas around Dublin. The bar can get really lively in the evening and you may not get a table unless you book in advance, but there is a downstairs bar that plays music and that you can party in if you're looking for a wilder time.

And if you really want to be impressed, you can tell all your friends you visited the Church that Arthur Guinness (the founder of the black stuff, Guinness) was married in, and you can have a delicious pint of Guinness in his honour!

The Bank, College Green

This bar may not be as obvious a spot as a massive church bar in the middle of Dublin but none-the-less when you walk in the door you are guaranteed be taken aback by the view and history in front of you. The pub itself opened in 2003, and is literally a stone's throw away from Trinity College where the Book of Kells resides. As a matter of fact if you walk out the front door and look to the right you will see Trinity College.

The building itself was acquired by the Belfast Bank in 1892, and took two years to construct into the Victorian era style you see there today. With palm trees tastefully blending in with high pillars and a jaw dropping ceiling, it will take your whole first drink just to sit and absorb the beauty and grandeur of this beautiful bar. And if you're hungry, you're in luck as us Irish say, they won the best pub with food award in 2017.

The Market Bar

We're getting off the tourist trail here a bit, but the market bar is a very popular spot with locals and tourists alike. If you're looking to start the night off in a cool bar with a great atmosphere then this is the place for you. Located just off Georges Street on the very popular Fade Street, the Market Bar offers an amazing variety of tapas and cocktails.

Random fact, the area was originally Dublin's red light district with over 1,600 prostitutes working there in the 19th century with most of their business coming from British Service men. The Market Bar itself was originally an abattoir and you can still see the grates on the floor where the animal waste was disposed of.

These days though, its a restaurant and bar that has a great reputation for good food and drink, a great selection of wine with a big open plan area the allows the noise of people chatting to echo around the room which only adds to the atmosphere. It still has it's obvious factory ceiling meshed with red brick walls and fitting decor, portraits on the wall, along with a more closed off bar upstairs that plays music.

Café En Seine

Recently re-imagined and rebuilt to a bar more fitting to its French name, Cafe en Seine is a popular Dublin bar. It first opened its doors in 1993, making it the newest bar on this guide.

The recent redesign includes a pretty awe inspiring Parisian street garden at the rear of the bar. After a few of their cocktails you might actually believe you're in Paris for a time, or at least till the alcohol wears off!

It has a number of seating and dining areas but like I said this is a popular spot so if you want a seat advanced booking is highly recommended. The areas overlooking the Parisian garden would be my preference simply for the view and people watching.
