National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin's City Centre

Ireland is famous for many things, our national drink, our musical talent, our brilliant artists, poets and writers to name a few. All of these things help us do what we do best, tell stories, and we do love a good story!

We have a rich history in Folklore, full of magic. I can remember begging my father to help me chase a rainbow when I was a child. I truly believed there was a Leprechaun waiting there with a pot of gold for me. He obviously refused.

At the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin's City Centre, you can experience this magic in abundance. It's dedicated to bringing Irish Folklore and Mythology to everyone and inspire the imagination of tourists and locals as it truly is part of our heritage.

When you go into the Leprechaun Museum, you will be brought through the various rooms by your guide. They will regale tales of Irish Ghosts called "Púca", and you will learn about the infamous Banshee and why her wails warned that death was looming.

Most importantly, you will learn what a Leprechaun actually is, what defines a leprechaun and also the inspiration for Walt Disney's film, "Darby O'Gill and the Little People".

Its an entertaining tour for the whole family and some of the rooms contain optical illusions that you can play with. There is also the giant room where all the furniture is massive to make you feel like you are a Leprechaun.

For the people that like a little more fear in their lives, on Friday and Saturday evenings, you can do the Darkland Tour (Ooooooh). This creepy tour offers more sinister tales from Irish Folklore, but be-warned, this is not for the faint-hearted and is strictly over 18's! These tours are from 7 pm on Friday and Saturday.

Price: Adults - €16, Children 7 years and older - €10

Opening hours: Monday to Sunday 10 am to 6.30 pm
