St. George's Market, Belfast is must-see...

Constructed in the 1890s, St George’s market is one of Belfast's oldest and most popular attractions for tourists and locals.

After some neglect, the market was refurbished in 1997 restoring this stunning victorian building to its current glory. It is currently the only surviving covered victorian market in Belfast.

With a vast array of stalls offering different products and produce, you might get lost for a few hours here, but its really the people that make St George’s Market exceptional.

Every vendor and I mean every single vendor is extremely friendly and will have no problem chatting to you about your day or telling you about what it is they sell and how they came about doing so. They will be welcoming and smiling through your entire visit.

During the second world war, St Georges Market was used as a mortarium. Belfast was heavily bombed by the Germans and many bodies were brought to the market but were unable to be identified.

Today it is mainly a market but some other events are held on the premises. Music concerts have been held here for bands including Kasabian, Biffy Clyro and Mark Ronson. If you like music, a lot of the time during the general market there may be musicians playing music close to the seating area if you want to take a load off.

St Georges Market was also home to the World Irish Dancing Championships in 2012 so it has a history steeped in Irish tradition and heritage.

So if you want something exciting where you can immerse yourself with the locals of Belfast and enjoy some warm Irish hospitality, St Georges Market is definitely a place to visit this weekend in Ireland.
