Offaly Way - A Flat Trek Over 38 Km Showing the Beauty of Central Ireland

Offaly Way, ready to take your breath away!

The stunning Offaly Way is a 38 Kilometer Hiking route that links the Slieve Bloom Way with the Sli Mor and is en-route to Grand Canal Way.

The route begins at Cadamstown where you will see signposts for the beginning of the journey and finishes at Lemanaghan. It has a varying landscape as you pass through this walk, from riverbanks, bogland and quaint country roads. A lot of the path is quite flat, so it offers you extensive views of the landscape and will be a little different if you're used to mountainous walks. The highest point is only 140 meters so if you like significant inclines this trail may not be for you.

There are markers along the entire route to keep your direction in check. The trail will suit moderate to high levels of walkers depending on the amount of distance you would like to cover.

At Ballyboy the Way crosses the Silver River and runs along its bank into the town of Kilcormac. The town holds the Kilcormac Pietà, a 16th-century representation of the Virgin Mary mourning over the body of Christ. For 60 years, during a time of persecution, the Pieta was hidden in a bog. Beyond Kilcormac, the Way enters Boora Bog, an area of peatland formerly harvested for turf.

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club organises the annual Slieve Bloom Walking Festival during the May bank holiday weekend. The Slieve Bloom Walking club also holds guided walks every Sunday during the entire year.

The guided walks are open to everyone and cost €5 per walk, or you can purchase an annual membership for €20 for a single person or €30 for a family membership.

All you need to attend is a good pair of walking boots and a packed lunch.
