Who said romance is dead?

The French certainly have romance down to a fine art. Us Irish should take a page from their book when the time comes to make some unforgettable moments with the person you love.

It's not always easy coming up with unique ideas to impress the incredible person in your life but worry no more. Weekend Ireland has you covered with our essential list for the top 10 most romantic things you can do around Dublin.

Catch the sunset from Howth Lighthouse

Is there anything more romantic than watching the sunset with your arm's around the person you love, gazing into the coloured sky.

There have been many romantic movies scenes shot and accepted marriage proposals made, under a setting sun over the years.

The end of Howth Lighthouse is a fantastic place to sit and relax and take it all in. With the light changing on Ireland's eye, the sound of the waves and birds and the person you love beside you how could this not be on the top of your list of places to share some time romantic together.

You can find the location of the lighthouse in Howth here.

Share a couch and movie at the Stella Theatre

With its dimly lit room, couples couches, cocktails and popcorn, sharing a sofa in Dublin's Stella Theatre is a fabulous way to spend some time together at the weekend.

Much larger cinema's don't offer you too much privacy for your time together, but with The Stella Theatre's layout and large leather chairs, it's ideal for you to cuddle up and catch a romantic film together.

The cost of the couch is the same price as two individual tickets so you won't pay extra for romance.

Upstairs, they have the Stella cocktail club, so after the movie, you can head up and enjoy some added time together with a well-made refreshment in their elegantly designed bar.

You can find out more about the Stella Theatre and book tickets here.

Share a quiet drink in the Library Bar at the Central Hotel

I'll probably get in trouble for sharing this as The Library Bar at Dublin's Central hotel is a beloved and well-kept secret by the patrons that drink there.

It's quiet, and the regular customers aspire to keep it that way.

Within the Library Bar's Victorian style bar, you can grab a cosy seat and a perfect pint of Guinness also, if you find Guinness romantic.

Located on Exchequer Street in the centre of Dublin, The Library bar will remove you from the loud pubs that are the norm in Dublin and place you in comfortable surroundings.

The staff are friendly and in the winter, a warm fire crackles in their Victorian fireplace, which only enhances the romance.

You can find The Library bar on the Central Hotels website here.

Have a relaxing Spa day in Urban Day & Medi Spa

What's more satisfying than being able to spend quality time together while also being relaxed and pampered?

Well, that's what you get at Urban Day Spa in Dublin.

You have loads of different option of different spa packages you can choose from, with packages lasting from 2 hours to 4 and a half hours of delightful treatments.

With their packages, you also get full access to their sauna steam room and jacuzzi. Admittedly it's not the cheapest of ideas on the list, but I'm sure it's one your loved one will appreciate.

With a light-lunch included you can sit in your dressing gowns and soak up the happiness you will sense when your loved one enjoys this lovely day out you have provided for them.

Eat a romantic Sunday lunch in Pearl Brasserie

"Food is the way to any man's heart", and you should not overlook the quality of your food.

Pearl Brasserie on Merrion road is a romantic up-market restaurant that has an exceptional lunch menu that is well priced.

They offer a two-course meal for €29, and you can add dessert for an extra €7. The setting and experience here are exceptional, and you are ensured to dazzle your date with a surprise like this.

There is a genuinely romantic ambience to this place with fresh, dimly lit interiors, light music and candles on the table. Splash out and treat them like they deserve to be.

Sail a boat to Dalkey Island and have a picnic

Ireland has some of the most stunning coasts in the world, and Dublin is no exemption.

Dalkey has a stunning little uninhabited island. Dalkey Island is where you and your partner can catch a ferry across to the island and appreciate the day together with a picnic and some private time.

Hopefully, there won't be many visitors to bother you too much, but with such a remarkable view when you arrive, it won't matter.

Our recommendation is the charming "Ken, the ferryman". He will bring you over for only €10 per person on his small boat. He will share loads of information with you about the wildlife before he gets you there.

You can visit Ken the Ferry man's website here.

You can find Dalkey Island here.

Walk along the Great South Wall together.

The South wall is a 4 km long walk along a very long pier into the Irish Sea. It's a stunning place to spend time with the person you love (as they can't really escape). Here you get to have an excellent close-up view of Poolbeg chimneys.

Not a massive tourist destination but very popular with locals at the weekend for a long walk, the Great South wall can be a lovely day out together especially if you get there early before the masses arrive in the latter part of the morning.

You can grab a coffee at the start and throw your legs over the side of the pier and watch the ships come into Dublin docks together.

If you're feeling adventurous and want to be a bit more active in your romance, you can get your swimsuit on and take a dip together off the South-side where the swimming club is (When the weather is right of course).

To get to the Great South Wall, you can find the location here.

Feed the deer together in the Phoenix Park

Nothing swells the heart more than cuteness, and the vast Phoenix Park in Dublin has cuteness in abundance with its massive family of deer.

Generally located in the massive open expanse close to the papal cross, grab a bag of carrot's at the nearest Tesco's or Lidl and surprising your loved one with a stroll up to the deer is sure to get the heart aflutter.

The deer can be nervous at first, but once they see the deer-related delights on offer, they will be more than thrilled to seize a few carrots from your hand and scamper off.

You can spend an hour feeding them and reflecting on how cute the babies are, and spend some time taking selfies together with the deer if they are brave enough.

After, why not have a spot of romantic lunch with a glass of wine in the Anglers rest in Chapelizod, close to the park, to finish off the romantic day.

You should be able to find the deer's location here.

Enjoy the Sun together at the Velvet Strand Beach

This golden sandy beach close to Dublin is great to bunk off work on a sunny Monday to extend your weekend.

Find a quiet little spot to set up a picnic and cuddle up for a day of unwinding and enjoying each others company in the sun.

The beach is 5 kilometres long, so it's easy to find your own quiet area especially on the less busy days of the week and because it's a bit further out than the regular beaches close to the city centre you can ensure your day will be spent without the intrusion of disturbing beach goers.

The quality of the water is observed on a regular basis so you can be happy that a fresh dip with your partner will be safe.

So pack your picnic basket, grab some towels and a blanket and make your way to Portmarnock, and a bottle of Prosecco on the beach wouldn't be a bad idea either.

You can find Portmarnock Beach here.

Spend a night of luxury together at the Shelbourne Hotel

Presumably the most costly idea on the list, but very much worth it to spend some quality romantic time with each other for the evening in this famous Dublin landmark.

There is no Hotel in Dublin more magnificent than the historic Shelbourne Hotel overlooking St Stephens Green park.

On the somewhat expensive side, a room will set you back €370 for the night at the lowest point, but you can expect to spend more, but is that person worth it to you? Ok, don't answer that now.

If staying the night is a little out of your budget you can opt for a dinner in the "Lord Mayors lounge" which is more suitably priced for someone on a tighter budget.

You can expect to pay at least €30 for main course's here, but the setting is marvellous with chandeliers, a grand piano and Victorian windows overlooking St Stephens Green.

You can visit the Shelbourne Hotel's website here.
