International Book Lovers Day
On International Book Lovers Day us Irish love nothing more than sitting down with a nice cup of tea or coffee to veg out with a good book.
Finding a great place to unwind can be sometimes difficult in Dublin city due it’s fast paced nature. But fear not, there are plenty of comfortable, quiet and relaxing spaces around Dublin where you can get stuck into a good book and plough through the pages with ease.
So with that, here are Weekend Ireland’s Top 5 Places To Be In Dublin On Book Lovers Day
Kilmainham Hospital

Why we love it
FYI - Kilmainham Hospital is no longer an actual hospital, but an iconic landmark built in the 1600's.
Kilmainham Hospital is a book lovers paradise! If the weather permits, you can find a quiet space on their vast grassy area’s or under one of the trees near the main driveway. If you’re more of a chair lover, you can sit in the main square with a hot cup. Kilmainham Hospital can be quiet and serene early in the morning, allowing to take full advantage of Book Lovers Day if you’re not working. When the weather is not so great, you can head to the cafe under the hospital that has lots of seats and couches, along with a bookshelf so you can grab a book if you happen to forget to bring one.
If you have kids, there’s a children's area where they can play or read, letting you relax and have some you time. It’s the perfect little spot to get your reading on
Hugh Lane Art Gallery

Why we love it
The Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Parnell Square is a great place to kick back and get some reading done. Being that it is an art gallery, there are very few distractions. It’s quiet, bright and comfortable with a lovely little cafe that you can plonk yourself down in for a few hours.
If you get tired of the cafe you can walk around and check out the awesome art on display as the admission is free. You can even grab a seat in front of your favourite piece and pick up your book from where you left off. So give it a try and enjoy the silence.
The Grand Social

Why we love it
Being Irish, we sometimes enjoy an alcoholic beverage to accompany our reading material but that doesn't mean we want to compromise on our comfort.
During the day, the Grand Social is a quiet, dark oasis in the centre of the city where you can chill on their comfortable big chairs, have a very tasty beer or cocktail and flake out. You won't have to worry about loud music, or noisy drunks disturbing you so you can really make the most of your free time here.
Dun Laoghaire Library

Why we love it
Where is more perfect to read a book than a Library?
Dun Laoghaire Library is simply amazing with its stunning open design and warm, comfortable wooden interior. It’s a place where Dun Laoghaire locals are proud to call their own. They have comfortable seating areas and desks scattered all over the library and of course, you will be guaranteed silence here. The best thing about it is you can pick up a new book on every visit.
They have a coffee dock under the main Library so you can grab some drinks and food to enhance your day. If this sounds like heaven to you, be sure to make a trip to Dun Laoghaire on Book Lovers Day.
Iveagh Gardens

Why we love it
When it’s time to unwind tranquillity is key! There’s nothing better than the sounds of birds singing, the smell of fresh flowers, and water trickling.By visiting the Iveagh Gardens, you can easily have all of the above while you melt away into a great book. It’s a peaceful haven in the middle of the city where you can forget about your worries and let your imagination run free.
There are a ton of coffee shops close by, so you can easily grab a take out coffee and make your way to the nearest park bench to enjoy a good read and make the most of Book Lovers Day in Dublin.
